The Kuntivaara Safari costs the same per person whether riding alone or sharing. See each safari page for child prices, single-rider prices and other participation requirements.

Snowmobile distances shown are the total distance covered during the tour.

You can join on your own or as a couple. Safaris run with a minimum of 4 participants in total. Your own booking does not need to meet the full minimum group size.

Snowmobile Safaris in Ruka – Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need previous snowmobiling experience?

No experience is needed. Your guide will introduce you to the snowmobile and explain safe riding before you set off. The riding pace takes the group’s experience and weather conditions into account. Safari Around Ruka is a great choice for your first snowmobile adventure.

Do I need a driving licence?

Yes. To drive a snowmobile, you need a valid driving licence accepted for snowmobiling in Finland. Bring your licence with you. Passengers do not need a licence. If you are unsure whether your foreign licence is accepted, please contact us before booking.

Can two adults share a snowmobile and take turns driving?

Yes, on safaris with a shared-snowmobile option. Both drivers must meet the licence requirements and attend the driving briefing. You can swap drivers at stops when instructed by your guide.

Are safari prices per person or per snowmobile?

Safari prices are per person. When sharing a snowmobile, each participant pays their own participation fee. The price for driving alone is listed separately. On the Kuntivaara Wilderness Safari, the price per person is the same whether you drive alone or share.

Can we book a private safari or a tour for a larger group?

Yes. Private safaris are available on request for groups of 8–50 people, including families, friends and corporate groups.

Email info@kuusamosafaris.fi with your preferred date, group size, children’s ages and any wishes for the experience. We will suggest a suitable programme and confirm availability and pricing.

Can I book for just one or two people?

Yes. You do not need to book a group of four yourself. A safari runs when a total of at least four participants have booked the same departure.

Can children join, and how do they travel?

Children are welcome on our family-friendly safaris. On the Family Snowmobile Safari, Safari Around Ruka and Husky Safari, children shorter than 135 cm ride in a heated sled towed by the guide. Children measuring 135 cm or more may ride as snowmobile passengers.

For the Kitka Safari, children must be at least 135 cm tall because this tour does not use a passenger sled. The Ritakorpi Tour and Kuntivaara Wilderness Safari are for adults. Please provide each child’s age and height when booking.

Does a child riding on a snowmobile pay the child or adult price?

Child pricing follows the age range shown on the individual safari page (4-12 years). Height determines how the child can travel: children measuring at least 135 cm may ride as snowmobile passengers. Tell us your child’s age and height if you need help choosing the correct booking option.

Can children drive mini snowmobiles?

The Family Snowmobile Safari includes a mini snowmobile session lasting around 15 minutes at our private forest track. Children must be at least 115 cm tall to drive a mini snowmobile.

Children ride in an enclosed area under guide supervision. The guide assesses each child’s readiness and adapts the activity to their abilities and the conditions.

What is included, and what should I wear?

The safari price includes the snowmobile, fuel, a guide, driving and safety instruction, and winter riding equipment: thermal overalls, winter boots, gloves, a balaclava and a helmet. Meals and other activities included in your chosen tour are listed on its safari page.

Wear warm layers underneath the overalls, such as thermal underwear and fleece or wool clothing, with warm socks.

Where do the safaris start, and when should I arrive?

Our meeting point is the Kuusamo Safaris Safari House at Kotatie 1, 93830 Rukatunturi, Finland. Please arrive around 15 minutes before your safari starts to allow time to get ready.

You will collect your winter clothing and riding equipment and attend the safety briefing here. Please also check the arrival instructions in your booking confirmation.

Can I book a safari with transfers?

Yes! Request a quote for a safari package including pick-up from your accommodation in the Ruka area and a return transfer after your safari.

Please let us know your preferred safari, date, group size and accommodation. Transfers must be arranged in advance and are subject to availability.

Can you accommodate dietary requirements?

If your safari includes food or refreshments, please tell us about allergies and dietary requirements in advance. Let us know if you need a vegetarian option, for example, so we can confirm a suitable alternative before your visit.

How do I book and pay for a safari?

Use the booking calendar on your chosen safari page. Safaris booked online are paid in full when booking, with online payments processed by Paytrail.

If you cannot find a suitable departure or would like a private safari, email info@kuusamosafaris.fi.

Can I cancel my booking?

Yes. Cancellation is free when more than 14 days remain before your safari starts. For later cancellations, the fee depends on when we receive your cancellation.

Email info@kuusamosafaris.fi with the booking name, safari date and time, and booking reference. See our booking and cancellation terms for the full details.

What happens if the safari is cancelled because of weather or insufficient bookings?

If we cancel your safari because of weather, safety conditions or insufficient participants, we will refund the full amount paid for the cancelled safari. We may also agree with you on another date or an alternative activity. You can choose a refund instead.

Is there an excess if the snowmobile is damaged?

The excess in the event of snowmobile damage is €1,000 per snowmobile. Before the safari, your guide will explain how to operate the snowmobile safely.
